That being said, I will never suggest supplies that I do not personally use and fully recommend.

Have you ever seen glowing letters? I want to show you how to create a simple effect which makes your lettering seem like it’s glowing on the page! All you need are two coloured paint pens/markers and one white to create this stunning effect.

Supplies Used

  • Paint pens / markers in two shades of the same color (blue, pink, yellow)
  • Fineline white pen (such as a gel pen) is essential for outlining.
  • Black cardstock

Let’s Get Started!

Feel free to use whatever supplies you have available. I personally used Posca paint pens – in two shades of blue, a thin white gel pen – this is essential for outlining, and black cardstock. I recommend using good quality black cardstock for the best results, but I used budget-friendly cardstock for this project.

Step #1

Start by writing a word (like “glow”) in a bulky style using the darker shade of your chosen color. Make sure not to go over the same spot too many times to avoid chunkiness. (To keep the paint smooth, I recommend creating a puddle with the pen.)

After applying the first layer, let it dry completely (or about 80% if you’re feeling impatient like me!).

Step #2

Next, apply a second layer with the lighter shade, gently rewriting the word to enhance the glowing effect. Again, let this layer dry completely.

Step #3

Use the thin white pen to outline the letters, ensuring the white stays opaque to really make the glow pop.

And That’s a Wrap!

I think this technique would look amazing on birthday cards, and I encourage you to experiment with different colors!

And finally, your dad joke…

The seafood I ate was a little… fishy.
And now I’m feeling eel!
