That being said, I will never suggest supplies that I do not personally use and fully recommend.

Today, I’m super excited to share a really fun and incredibly simple project: how to make a whole stack of adorable little note cards!

Whether you need thank you cards, quick birthday notes, or just want a stash of cute cards on hand, this tutorial is for you. The best part? You can make a ton of them all at once, and you absolutely do not need any special art skills.

Seriously, if you think you’re “not artistic,” you can still totally nail this!

These cards are perfect because they’re quick to make, you can customize them with your favorite colors, and they’re so versatile. I’m actually making a batch right now for the amazing instructors at Workshop Week (more on that later!), but you can use them for a million different things.

Supplies Used

  • Paint (I love using Ecoline liquid watercolors, but any paint you have will work!)
  • Watercolour paper (or sturdy cardstock)
  • A couple of brushes (a bigger one for backgrounds, a smaller one for details)
  • Painter’s tape (super helpful for clean edges!)
  • A paper cutter or scissors
  • Water
  • Optional: A corner rounder punch (for that extra polished look!)

Let’s Get Started!

When I say this tutorial is easy, I mean REALLY easy. This is such a fun and super simple technique that literally anyone can do. You do not need any experience to do it, and it just looks so fun and cute.

Note: You can use ANY paint or even markers for this card design. I’m using Ecoline Liquid Watercolours because I really like them, but you can use any paint or any markers and any colours.

Step #1: Background Fun

Tape your paper down and paint a solid, flat background with your chosen color. Use plenty of water if you’re using watercolors! Let it dry completely. I usually do a few different colored sheets at once.

Step #2: Doodle Time

Once dry, take your smaller brush and the same color paint (just a bit less diluted so it’s darker) and make random marks, doodles, or simple shapes all over the painted background. Don’t overthink it – just have fun! These random patterns look amazing when the cards are cut.

Step #3: Cut ‘Em Up

After the doodles are dry, it’s time to cut your painted sheets into smaller card sizes. I usually cut mine into eighths, giving me 8 cards per sheet.

Optional Step: Finishing Touch

If you have a corner rounder, punch the corners of your cards. It just gives them such a lovely, professional finish!

And That’s a Wrap!

And that’s pretty much it! You’ll have a beautiful stack of unique, handmade note cards ready for any occasion.

As I mentioned, I’m making these for the incredible instructors participating in Workshop Week. If you haven’t heard of it, Workshop Week is a fantastic FREE online art event I host, featuring tutorials from over 40 amazing artists. If you love art and learning new things, you should definitely check it out at workshopweek.co!

Anyway, I really hope you give these easy note cards a try. They’re a joy to make, and even more fun to use. Let me know if you make some!

I’d love to see your creations too! Be sure to tag me on Instagram!

And finally, your dad joke…

Where do you take someone who’s been injured in a peek-a-boo accident?
