This means that your purchase through these links may result in a few cents in payment to me, to support creating further resources like this one! That being said, I will never suggest supplies that I do not personally use and fully recommend.

I get asked constantly to demonstrate how I write the full lowercase modern calligraphy alphabet – and in this post, that’s exactly what you’re going to get. No fluff, no voiceover, just a chill, real-time walkthrough of me writing every single letter from a to z (or a to zed, depending where you’re reading from).

This is one of those videos you can watch and follow along with as you practice – or just have on while you zone out with your brush pen and paper. But before you hit play, there’s one thing I really need to emphasize…

⚠️ Before You Start: Do You Know the Basic Strokes?

If you’re new to calligraphy and haven’t learned the basic strokes yet, pause here and go back to that step first.

I promise this isn’t gatekeeping – it’s just the truth: the alphabet only makes sense once you understand the foundational strokes that make up each letter. Without them, copying letter shapes is just… copying. You won’t actually understand how or why those letters work (and they’ll be way harder to replicate consistently). If that’s you, head over to my free beginner course, Show Me Your Drills. You’ll thank yourself later.

Ready? Let’s Get Started! It’s Demo Time!

In the video above, you’ll see every lowercase letter written in real time using a brush pen. No voiceover, no editing out the pauses – just a calm, uninterrupted demo you can follow at your own pace.

I designed it to be helpful whether you’re practicing each letter or just want to see how the alphabet flows from start to finish.

Want to Break It Down Further?

If you’re the type of learner who likes to go letter by letter with step-by-step instructions, you might want to check out my Lowercase Alphabet Workbook. It walks you through each letter – stroke by stroke – with printable guides and video breakdowns.

You’ll learn how each letter is built from the basic strokes, which variations are common, and how to develop consistency in your letterforms.

This workbook is perfect if:

  • You’ve completed the basic drills
  • You want to confidently build your alphabet one piece at a time
  • You’re ready to go beyond copying and actually understand letter construction

You can find it HERE if you want to check it out.

That’s a Wrap!

Learning the calligraphy alphabet isn’t about memorizing how each letter looks. It’s about understanding the structure behind each one – and that starts with the basic strokes.

So if you watched the demo and thought, “Mine don’t look like that,” don’t be discouraged. They’re not supposed to yet. That smoothness and rhythm comes with time, repetition, and building a strong foundation.

Start with the drills. Work through the letters. Stick with it. You’ve got this.

And finally, your dad joke…

I heard this pun about cows… I’m afraid it’s too cheesy for you, so I won’t share it.
I don’t want there to be any beef between us.
